Pacquiao vs Marquez 3 – Robbed Again?
Before any of you Pacquiao haters or Mayweather lunatic fanatic say something, hear out my thoughts first – I am really, really disappointed with how the fight ended. That’s it, lol.
I was really looking for a knock out but Pacquiao, no matter how good he is, was not able to deliver. There goes the saying that everybody has his own cryptonite. Any after this fight, it was no doubt that Juan Manuel Marquez is Pacquiao’s cryptonite. I have admired Marquez throughout his career and if there’s anybody that can beat Pacquiao in his A game, it’s Marquez. I thought that Marquez’s skills diminished over time, but the 3rd Pacquiao-Marquez fight only proved that Marquez really knows Pacquiao so well that he almost had it.

Pacquiao vs Marquez - the aftermath
I watched the fight immediately after the winner was announced, still not convinced with the verdict. Honestly, I thought that Pacquiao won the fight with a 1 or at most 2-point margin. A 115-113 was ok, but a 116-112, c’mon. Even a Pacquiao die-hard fan would be shocked by that! Pacquiao was great throughout the fight, and came to Marquez aggresively. However, Marquez was excellent in his being a counter-puncher and landed quite a few solid punches that from time-to-time, intimidated and frustrated Pacquiao. Manny haunted Marquez with his aggresiveness and speed, although it wasn’t really effective throughout the fight. What I really saw Pacquiao lack was his killer instinct and the ability to follow-up on some of his good hits. Perhaps he is still being haunted by the last two bouts or he really thought that Pacquiao knew his game so well, that he can read his next moves. Perhaps not, but Marquez displayed patience and intelligence and waited for the perfect time to counter punch.
Pacquiao did won several rounds, but I give the 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th to Marquez on my card. My total score was 115-113 in favor of Pacquiao. The only thing missing to really wipe those doubts should have been a Marquez knock down. In my book, Pacquiao won fair and square – nobody was robbed, but a knockdown would have really sealed this great rivalry. Much like what happened to Ali and Frazier’s 3rd bout, would have made this fight eternal. Right now, there are rumors of a rematch, but I doubt if it will ever push through in the near future.
Again, congratulations to both fighters . Both of them deserve the compliments for a spectacular fight!
